A Taste of Heaven at Marigolds Chinese Cuisine

On a quiet Saturday evening in Winnipeg, MB, I embarked on a nostalgic journey to Marigold’s.

The anticipation of reliving pre-pandemic memories filled me with excitement as I stepped inside the restaurant.

The smell of veal and noodles filled the air. The decor was just as tacky as ever, and that’s one of the things I love about this place.

The owners are pleasant and active in their business.

What we ordered

We started with the deep-fried wontons. Most things here are deep-fried or at least cooked in oils.

They came out scorching hot and were delicious. There is never a ton of meat in these things yet I almost didn’t notice.

As we were eating our wontons, the waitress brought us our consomme soup. They have the best consomme soup I have ever tried.

I’m not sure what it is, but there is so much flavour. With those little green onions and white rice, it complements perfectly.

We then ordered 3 dishes to share.

The first dish was the dry breaded veal. It was seasoned just right and not dry at all. I haven’t had that in a while, so it was exactly how I remembered.

It did not disappoint!

Our second dish was deluxe low mein.

It’s a noodle dish with veggies such as broccoli and carrots. It also has some shrimp, chicken, and pork.

We had to fight over the noodles as they were fantastic and everyone wanted more.

They cook it in an oil that gives it tremendous flavour. Even the veggies taste good. They were perfectly cooked and had a little crunch to them.

Our final dish was lightly breaded shrimp.

That’s one of their specialties as most places add a lot of breading to the shrimp to fill people up.

The shrimp were perfect as usual, and dipping them in a little sweet and sour sauce was mouth-watering.

They weren’t overcooked or soggy, and the breading stayed on the shrimp.

Final Review

Everything we had was delicious, and I would recommend this restaurant.

While it isn’t a fancy place, the food sure is great, and that’s the most important thing.

They have their regulars that keep coming back, so that is a sign they must be doing something right.

My review of the food would be an 8.5/10.

Thank you for reading :)
