I Was the Victim of a Hit and Run

It was a Saturday afternoon in October when I strolled to my car and saw my bumper was hanging off and broken.

After a few seconds, I realized I was the victim of a hit and run as no note was left on my window. I spoke with the neighbours, but nobody saw or heard anything, and no cameras were around.

I was at a poker game the night before, which was an entirely different story, so I arrived home before 1 am.

From my guess, it happened between one and five am, and maybe the person was drunk or high as the roads were dry and not an issue. After filling out my police report and reporting the accident to my insurance carrier, I was stuck paying my deductible, which was $500.

The wait for the autobody was three months long, so nothing was completed until February.

The entire process was a significant pain, and I was stuck paying for something that wasn’t my fault. Hit and runs are too familiar, so if I ever see one in progress, I will try to get a photo or a plate number to help the other person out.

Being a victim is a helpless feeling, and this wasn’t even anything terrible, so I can’t imagine what other people feel when it comes to worse crimes.
