One of the Most Haunted Towns in America

Alton, Illinois, is not a big town by any stretch of the imagination. It’s a rather small town along the river that’s been featured in various television shows over the years.

The most famous of the town’s attractions is the McPike Mansion, which was built in 1869 and owned by Henry McPike.

The last time anyone occupied the building was over 70 years ago.

People have reported seeing orbs and odd lights coming from the mansion. People even claim to see the likes of Eleanor and Henry McPike roaming the corridors of their old home.

The town has many ghostly haunts for people who are brave enough to join in the festivities of the town.

The Milton School is haunted by a little girl who is believed to have been possibly locked in the school overnight. The next day, her body was found in the locker room.

The Ryder Building has a resident ghost who drags tables and chairs across the first-floor restaurant.

The Confederate Prison is said to have housed thousands of soldiers during the Civil War and where more than 1400 of them died due to a smallpox outbreak.

Tours of the area have been going on for 30+ years, thanks to the natural curiosity of the unknown.

The McPike Mansion has some new owners, and the rumour is they had no idea this place was haunted when they bought it!

So if ever they open this up as a bed and breakfast or hotel, I will be first in line to try and book a stay.

Don’t worry; I will report back when that happens if I make it out alive.

Thank you for reading :)
